ARCHIVE @ PERFORMANCERUM

Between 2018-2020, I lived in Aarhus and had the pleasure to perform at PERFORMANCErum, “an association that wants to create a space for performance art in Aarhus. PERFORMANCErum is a place where innovative and experimental performance art can live, and where there is room to test the practical and theoretical limits of the art form”.

Here’s documentation of 2 performances I have done for 2 for their performancerum editions happening every month.

(2018) TRIBUTE TO NEZAKET EKICI "Emotion in motion (2001)": Externalizing (self) Love

A tribute to the performance artist Nezaket Ekici’s “Emotion in Motion” famous piece.

A performer dressed in white puts different coloured lipstick on and proceeds to kiss a large white piece of paper canvas set onto a wall. I was inspired by the simplicity of this piece in communicating what I was reading back then as Audre Lordean uses of the erotic

Performed at Rum46, Aarhus

Hair cities is a collection of performative canvas-sculptures made of synthetic, used/ new, twisted, and braided hair. The concept exists in different mediums, from an image in a canvas onto material mapped in a gallery.

(2018) hair cities, performancerum, Aarhus

The action: a performer (body_hacker) removes their braids and positions them in a mapped out room. The image below is a map speaking of the pluralist body navigating racial class journeys and patriarchal capitalism. There are three main boxes: capitalist imposter syndrome, my comfort zone, and multitudes of being.

There is an attempt to write an equation:

human -commodity=

multitudes - commodity =

human + commodity =

?

The performer dies their hair in blue.

This was a very early and careful attempt to articulate body politics within a capitalist and elitist art field. I wonder what I was reading back then.
